Each Lord’s Day morning we gather together to strengthen one another’s hand in the mission that we’ve been given.  We do this by being nourished on the Word of God and by encouraging one another through godly fellowship.  Like coals gathered together, we burn brighter and hotter.  Then, with renewed warmth and brightness, we scatter to bring warmth and light into our God-given spheres of influence.  Every Christian is called to live on mission, to proclaim the gospel and make disciples (Matt. 24:14; 28:18-20; cf. Luke 24:47).  Practically speaking, we are to faithfully commend the gospel by living godly lives in private, in public, and in every sphere of life—be it the home, extended family, church, workplace, community, etc.  Disciples are to be distinct, to so conform to God’s will that they stand out from the rest of the world, which is what Jesus meant by being salt and light (Matt. 5:13-16; cf. Rom. 12:1-2). Disciples are also to be ready to give a reason for the hope that is in them as they follow Jesus into the spheres in which he as called them (1 Pet. 3:15).
